Not impressed with the furniture and layout of the restaurant. Pleasing to my eyes were artwork that adorned the walls which speaks to the Haitian struggle and culture. We sat at bar and was warmly welcomed by bartender Romeo. Not happy that I had to wait until brunch ended to order Soup Joumou. In my humble opinion, soup should be available all day and everyday. Kudos to the chef for accommodating my request by adding goat meat to my soup Joumou. The goat meat needed to be more tender; other than the soup was flavorful. We also tried the crab cakes which were totally delicious. The menu appeals to me and will definitely be back for dinner. If you can hold a note, go there on Wednesday night for Karaoke.
Delicious Haitian food. We ordered the Pâté Kode and Griot sliders for appetizers, and Krabit En Sauce for Entree. We love the food and it’s a reminder of home for sure :)
The restaurant was extremely welcoming, and the service was great. I especially liked the herring shitay appetizer. The rice bowl with chicken was quite good as well. I also tasted the stewed goat, which was also excellent.
Zanmi for lunch today was delicious! We got the Zanmi Angus burger lunch special with the Jus Corossol and the Voodoo Pasta.
The pasta was very generous and very creamy. I had to pack almost half of it to take home! It definitely had a spicy kick to it. Adding the sausage to it was a nice touch and balanced out the textures and creaminess of the pasta.
The burger was ok. A little dry but very cheesy, and the lettuce and tomato was very fresh. Fries were well seasoned, nice and crunchy.
The atmosphere was nice and cheery for a breezy Friday afternoon, and service didn’t take too long for two people.
The Jus Corossol was quiet good! I didn’t know what soursop was but it went well with the coconut milk. The drink had a sweet taste and a tropical feel to it that we appreciated.
I LOVED the black rice and the fish I ordered. I had never tasted rice like this one before - zesty and filling. It arrived in the cutest small pot. The fish was SO flavorful and juicy. Totally got the bang for my buck coming here. I also ordered the scallops for an appetizer and it was good, but I was really blown away by my main dishes. I would love to return and try more things. They have a beautiful and comfortable outdoor seating area

UNBELIEVABLE! One of the best meals ever!
My wife and I stopped by for dinner after arriving into Brooklyn for the weekend.
Here’s what we ordered:
-Kabrit en Sauce w/ black rice (very delicious! the goat was so tender. Note: this does have some spice to it)
-Chickpea Laya w/ black rice (fully vegan and very, very good. A large portion, plenty to eat)
-Macaroni Autin (possibly the hidden gem of the menu. So creamy, hot, and delicious)
-Sweet plantains (amazing, just what we wanted for a nice sweet treat after dinner)
The staff was super friendly. Just as a heads up, they don’t serve alcohol, but we heard the mock tails are still good to have. The meal prices were a little higher than anticipated, but still, very much worth it.
Overall, we were highly impressed with Zanmi and recommend it to everyone. This restaurant is a diamond-in-the-rough establishment, definitely come check it out!
What a great sit down Haitian Restaurant! It was an amazing dining experience where I felt welcomed as a non-haitian person to eat food I am not familiar with. The host seated us right away and a server came within a minute with ice water glasses. All questions were answered and recommendations were provided. We started with Accra- which was some sort of plantain/root vegetable fritter with hints of saltfish. They were accompanied with pickliz delightfully habanero spiced cabbage pickling mixture. Then we had the legume l'aubergine vegan dish of black rice and veggies stew with beans and eggplant. The rice was spiced with hints of all spice, mushrooms and peas (that's what I imagine was in the rice) and the stew was hearty and satisfying with chayote squash. My husband had the grilled fresh salmon over sauteed greens (okra, collards) and a macaroni au gratin. Very good quality and generous portion of salmon, healthy and flavorful greens, the macaroni was crispy on the top and cheesy creamy inside with hints of Caribbean spices. That bechamel was on point. Loved it. Cocktails were delicious - a little bit on the sweeter side for my preference (but my husband loves it like that). Lakou punch was a hit reminiscent of a Mai Tai. I believe that the sweetness in the drinks pairs well with the well seasoned, sometimes spicy bites of the food.
I had dinner at Zanmi last week and the food and service was amazing! Our server Deja was personable and friendly and gave us recommendations for which appetizers to order. Everything was delicious and even though they brought out a dish that was incorrect, this was corrected quickly. I will definitely return to this restaurant. Great Haitian food!
